The Chinese smartphone brand plans to introduce the new television as soon as this year, according to a report in Nikkei. We should mention that Huawei is really trying to do this the Samsung-way. Much like Samsung has not limited itself to just smartphones, Huawei is trying to expand its range of devices. We would not be surprised if the company starts providing an entire ecosystem of products, much like Samsung. It is no secret that Huawei wants to replace Samsung as the top smartphone maker in the world. And coming out with an 8K 5G TV just goes to show that Huawei is serious about its rivalry and the competition between the two companies isn’t just limited to smartphones. We should also mention that the news of this TV comes at a time when the company’s smartphone business is growing stronger by the day in spite of its tensions that are going on with the US. According to research firms IDC and Strategy Analytics, Huawei is gaining ground while shipment numbers of Apple and Samsung are slipping. Currently, Samsung is not only the leading in terms of smartphone shipments, but it is also the biggest TV manufacturer in the world. The South Korean technology giant also started shipping an 8K TV which is priced at $4,999. However, the offering by Samsung does not come with 5G connectivity.
Speaking of 8K TVs, according to research firm IHS Markit, shipments of 8K TVs will go up from 430,000 in 2019 to 2 million in 2020. Although Huawei has carved a place for itself among the top smartphone companies in the world, manufacturing TVs is a different game altogether, and that too a much tougher one. And it is also worth adding that both 8K and 5G technologies are still very new, so making them work seamlessly in TV will prove to be tough too. Some may say that Huawei is being too ambitious, but we personally would love to see an 8K 5G TV as soon as this year.
